Demand for retraction pursuant to ORS § 31.215; and the general laws of the State of Oregon.

Dear Mr. Lloyd and Ms. Lenox:

Pursuant to Oregon Revised Statute § 31.215; and the general laws of the State of Oregon, this letter shall constitute a demand for a retraction as specified below pursuant to the statutes and general laws cited above.

This is being served on you in order to demand retraction of the defamatory statements sanctioned by James Lloyd and Susan Lenox, made on CHRISTIAN MEDIA NETWORK, on the "Apocalypse Chronicles" show, on the "OPS Show with Ralph and Kathy Haaff", and "The Acts One Eight" show with Rick Walters, and on other programs which you sanctioned, as well as the defamatory statements published about me by James Lloyd, in the article titled "The Rise and Fall of Craig Portwood" which you still have posted on your website CHRISTIANMEDIARESEARCH.COM. This article contains malicious, false and defamatory statements of and concerning myself, Linda Kristich

Over the course of the last 22 months, you have caused to be made, sanctioned, or made many false, unprivileged, malicious, and defamatory statements about me in a mass emailing of your "Christian Media Currents" newsletter, on your "Christian Media Daily" website ( located on the internet at http://www.christianmediadaily.com), on your "Christian Media Research" website (located on the internet at http://www.christianmediaresearch.com), and on your "Apocalypse Chronicles" radio show, which was broadcast on at least 5 internationally allocated standard carrier frequencies on radio stations WBCQ, broadcasting from Monticello Maine, WWRB, broadcasting from Manchester Tennessee, and WRMI, broadcasting from Miami Florida, which are licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, Washington DC, United States of America.

You have also caused to be made, sanctioned, or made many unprivileged defamatory statements about me on several internet streams owned or controlled by you which can be accessed by three (3) of your websites located on the internet at http://www.christianmediadaily.com, at http://www.christianmediaresearch.com, and http://www.christianmedianetwork.com.

Among the false defamatory statements made on your websites, internet broadcasts, and international radio broadcasts were comments by James Lloyd that I (Linda Kristich) am "a slut", "a slut puppy", a "whore", an "adulteress", and numerous other defamatory references which falsely cast aspersions on my good character.

In addition, you allowed to be broadcast, and rebroadcast statements from CHRISTIAN MEDIA NETWORK "host" Rick Walters, false, malicious, and defamatory statements that I paid for a Hotel room for the purpose of having my young son "sleep in the same bed with Craig Portwood". Your on air response the following day to my email to you expressing my outrage, was mocking laughter. Do you think a Judge or Jury might also find this as humorous as you have?

In addition to the aforementioned comments, James Lloyd also made statements which made reference to me that "Portwood is uh raging over there in uh his uh Motel Room that's being paid for by the husband of the woman that he ran off with (laughing) and the two kids you know so she's he's living off of her hoping to get a nice big fat divorce settlement to pay for his airtime", and "Here's Craig Portwood right now. This guy will be on the radio this Friday night. He's an adulterer. He's shacked up in a Motel right now with another man's wife going to court trying to get the money from the inheritance that the husband got to finance himself in a new Christian Network because he wants to be James Lloyd when he grows up I guess." and then made the statement that "You can go to christianmediadaily.com and our cover story is there, available for all to see". In that "article" I was named as the woman referred to in the broadcasts, and thereby linked to the previous statements. These on air comments are documented.

At no time was I "shacked up" with Craig Portwood or anyone else for that matter. At no time did my children live with Craig Portwood in his Motel room. I lived with my children and my estranged husband as ordered by the court during the period of my divorce action. I can prove my statements in a court of law if necessary.

Yet other false, malicious, and defamatory statements remain on your "CHRISTIAN MEDIA RESEARCH" website, located on the internet at http://www.christianmediaresearch.com. Among them are the following statements:

"He subsequently moved into a motel where, as of this writing, he is visited in the evenings by Linda Kristich — who is still living with the husband she is divorcing." I can prove this statement is false, and made with reckless disregard of the facts, as well as the effect which it has had upon my children, who have viewed this story on the internet. It is difficult to explain your wickedness to them even though they know these statements are untrue. Are you prepared to defend that statement? I have solid documentation which refutes that statement.

Another false, malicious, and defamatory statement made in that article states: "As people arrived for the weekend event, the first Friday evening (May 31st 2002) Craig and Linda went out to dinner with a number of new arrivals. The following day, at least one person present at that dinner approached Kathy Haaff (co-host of the Christian Media Ops program with her husband Ralph) and asked "What’s up with Craig and Linda? He was all over her at the restaurant last night." Are you prepared to produce witnesses to support your claim in court? I have statements which contradict your account of events that evening, from each and every individual in attendance.

Another such statement published on the aforementioned website states: "As no attempt was made to conceal the relationship, word of the budding "romance" quickly spread among the attendees at Clifty Falls. Event producer Rick Walters testifies that on Sunday, he observed Craig and Linda repeatedly kissing as they jubilantly announced they were getting married." Is Rick Walters prepared to testify under oath?

Another false, malicious, and defamatory statement made in that article states: "Because Craig didn’t have much money when he left Oregon and producing a daily shortwave hour is a relatively expensive proposition, we can’t help but presume the broadcast fees are coming from Linda as she battles her husband for his substantial inheritance monies". I have court records which prove that this statement is false. Are you prepared to defend this statement? Do you believe that because you have characterized this statement as a presumption that you are protected from liability?

You have also accused me of "engaging in an adulterous relationship" "in front of many witnesses." Are you prepared to name and depose them?

Another false, malicious, and defamatory statement made in that article states: "During that August 26th telephone conversation between Linda Kristich and Kathy Haaff, Linda became very angry with Kathy as Mrs. Haaff refused to be manipulated by Kristich in regard to her threats against Christian Media. Part of Kristich’s anger also seems to be related to the fact that Ralph Haaff had refused a Portwood/Kristich request for Ralph to baptize them." Are you prepared to defend that statement in court?

Another false, malicious, and defamatory statement made in that article states: "Again Linda had inquired about airtime costs at the network as she indicated she was considering entering into some sort of Christian broadcasting — thus the grandiose nature of the couple’s plans began to come into focus." Am I guilty of some moral or criminal failing because I had thought to purchase airtime from CHRISTIAN MEDIA NETWORK? Are your "clients" who host broadcasts on your CHRISTIAN MEDIA NETWORK also guilty of such grandiosity? How do you think a Judge or Jury might view this statement? Are you prepared to defend these statements?

You may believe that because I was kind enough to fill in for Susan Lenox on her "Sound Body" show on two (2) occasions, and on three (3) other occasions for Craig because he was ill or otherwise occupied with other matters over the last two (2) years, that I am a "Public Figure" and thus "fair game". It would behoove you to consult with an attorney for a legal opinion as to what a Judge or Jury might believe about my status as a private person.

I ask you now (and perhaps a Jury in the future), what have I ever done to harm you? How have I wronged you? Was it because I stopped sending CHRISTIAN MEDIA money in 2001? Your verbal abuse of those with whom you are in disagreement, as well as of those who stop supporting you financially has been recorded in your own words. Are you willing to defend these statements in court?

As stated previously, pursuant to Oregon Revised Statute § 31.215; and the general laws of the State of Oregon, this letter shall constitute a demand for a retraction as specified above pursuant to the statutes and general laws cited above.

You had better think long and hard before dismissing this communication, but if you refuse, I am willing to go to court with the full evidence relating to this dispute with which to defend myself and my claims against you.
